What is Green Power and How does it Work
from:You might ask, what is green power in relation to electricity? Electricity generated from green power, is energy developed from a sustainable source that never runs out. The sun and wind are sustainable sources, so are flowing water, biogas, and geothermal energy.
What is green power in relation to solar energy? Solar energy is radiation that comes from the sun and reaches the surface of the earth. We convert solar energy into electrical energy via photovoltaic systems. Many people have already installed photovoltaic systems to their homes and businesses. What is green power in relation to how solar power works? The sun’s radiation makes contact with the solar panels that contain photovoltaic cells. These cells are like little batteries power concentrators that heats water to create steam. The steam turns turbines in the photovoltaic system to generated electricity.
What is green power in relation to the wind? As the current of air moves through the blades of a wind turbine, kinetic energy moves the blades, which spins a shaft which turns the turbine to generate electricity. What is green power in relation to the amount of electricity produced? Wind turbines can produce anywhere from 250 watts to 50,000 watts. Many wind turbines are more than 150 feet high. There are some places around the world that have wind turbines that are over 400 feet high. In Emden, Germany there are wind turbines 405 feet tall. They produce enough energy to power 5,000 homes.
What is green power in relation to flowing water? The kinetic energy of flowing water generates electricity when water is directed through hydroelectric turbines. The water turns the blades and generates electricity. Hydroelectric plants utilize the kinetic energy of falling water; the blades turn the turbine, which powers a generator which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy.
What is green power in relation to biogas? Biogas is created from a biogas plant. The plant is located near farms and slaughterhouses, tanneries, dairy farms, breweries, fish processing plants. Waste in the form of cow manure, sludge from breweries, and other processing plants send their waste products to the biogas processing plant. The plant consists of digesters that break up the sludge into its molecular parts. The methane gas produced is used to create heat and electrical power. The remaining waste is turned into chemical fertilizer.
What is green power in relation to geothermal energy? Heat is captured from the earth in many ways. Molten rock at the center of the earth radiates upward toward the crust of the earth. This heat can be harnessed and used to create electricity. A great place to find geothermal heat is near volcanoes; along the pacific rim there are a ring of hot spots called the Ring of Fire. Power companies can utilize this power to generate electricity. There are so many ways to tap into the kinetic energy of the earth; one day the use of fossil fuels will be a thing of the past.

Engineers have created nanoscale single crystals that can produce the red, green, or blue laser light needed in digital displays. The size determines color, but all the pyramid-shaped quantum dots are made the same way of the same elements. In experiments, light amplification required much less power than previous attempts at the technology. The team's prototypes are the first lasers of their ...
